Face-to-face communication becomes a reality

An important component of the Cisco Unified Communications system is the Cisco Unified 7985G personal desktop phone, which makes instant face-to-face communication possible for both executives and regular managers of the company. This model combines all the necessary components for making a video call - a camera, LCD display, speaker, keypad and handset - into one easy-to-use device. Access to the combined capabilities of IP telephony and IP video telephony is provided to users using a unified numbering plan and a common directory - within a single Cisco Unified Communications infrastructure - using Cisco Unified CallManager.

In addition, the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G offers:

Features

The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G is a dynamic device designed to grow with your system capabilities. Call features such as call forwarding, transfer, conferencing, and hold are now available with video and are all initiated through IP phone. Using Cisco Unified Communications Manager, IP phones and IP video phones can be deployed to all employees using the target plan and communications across the entire Cisco Unified Communications solution infrastructure. Through software updates to the phone's flash drive, features keep pace with changes. No manual configuration of the phone is required when the user changes location; the user simply picks up the phone and moves to a new location anywhere on the network. The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G provides rich user-related methods. In addition to the Messages, Directories, Settings, and Services buttons, the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G has 5 buttons for control display features. Table 1 describes the features of the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G.

Messages button

Phones have direct access to email.

Directories button

The phone identifies incoming messages a categorizes them on screen, allowing users to quickly and effectively return calls using the direct-dial-back capability. Enterprise directory integrated with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol Version 3 (LDAP3) standard directory.

Settings button

The button settings allow users to set the display key, select background images (if available), and then select from a large number of sound options via the User Preferences menu. Network configuration preferences can also be set (usually by the system administrator). The user can be automatic or automatic dialing for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), Cisco Unified Communications Manager, and launching Cisco Unified Communications Managers.

Services button

The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G enables users to press access to a variety of data such as weather, stocks, quotes of the day, or any Web-based information using Extensible Markup Language (XML) to provide a portal to the ever-growing world of applications, features, and information.

Note: Services are not currently active; users will see the message "Sending key" when they press the Services button.

Help

Online Help feature gives users information about keys, buttons, and features.

Speakerphone, Mute, and Headset buttons

High quality telephone handsets, speakerphone technology, including easy-to-use On/Off button, Microphone Mute button, and Headset button. These buttons were illuminated when actively used.

Ethernet switch

The internal Cisco 2-port Ethernet network cable provides a direct connection to a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet network via an RJ-45 interface with single-LAN connectivity to the phone device and a co-located PC. The system administrator can create separate VLANs (802.1Q) for the PC and Cisco Unified IP Phones, ensuring the security and reliability of message and data transport.

Headset port

The combined headset port eliminates the need for a separate device when using a headset. It is typical that the handset to remain in the cradle, simplying headset use.

Volume control

The true volume control on the phone can be effective volume levels for speakers, handset, headset, and ringer.

Self-View button

Press the button to move the video image from destroying the video. Press the image movement key on the hand arrow in full mode.

Picture-in-Picture (PIP) button

The PIP button displays a smaller image of the outgoing video. The PIP display shows on top of the speakerphone when people are on the phone, allowing them to keep a picture at the same time.

Video Mute button

This button toggles the Video Mute feature on or off. When video mute is active, the video phone has no bearing on the user's video image. Far-end video phone displays muted-video icon to determine whether the nearby user has enabled video mute.

Display button

Play button select menu on and off. With this phone, all information located on the phone, including soft-key labels, lines, and call information, can essentially be removed and video image set for full-screen view.

Brightness button

These are the performance monitor control buttons.

Flexible power options

The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G can be powered from the LAN by a single Cisco IEEE 803.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch. This can also be supplied locally with a potential method (part number CP-PWR-CUBE-3).

Multiple ring tones

Moreover, 5 user-adjustable ring tones are available.

American Disabilities Act (ADA)

Guidance on what Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) Act requirements are available; the handset also meets HAC requirements for magnetic coupling to accommodate HAC hearing aids. The dial pad is also ADA compliant.

Signaling protocol support

The Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP) phone supports.

Codec support

G.711, G.729ab, and G722 audio compression codes are available.

Configuration options

IP address assignment can be configured statically or through DHCP.

Voice quality

Convenient generation and voice-activity detection (VAD) programming can be performed on the basis of the system.

Note: Two versions of the phone hardware are available for distribution, depending on the power frequency adopted in the country where the phone is to deployed. For use in countries with a 50-Hz power frequency, you should evaluate the PAL version of the product; For use in countries with a 60-Hz power frequency, you should evaluate the NTSC version of the product.
