The Juniper M7i-AC-5GE-P Edge Router is the most compact M-Series routing platform, with 10Gbps of bandwidth and built-in services support, making it ideal for edge routing in IP/MPLS environments in small points of presence, as well as for Internet gateway routing and aggregation solutions in enterprises.
The M series of IP backbone routers includes 8 models with identical functionality, differing in performance, port capacity and range of interface modules, as well as the presence of redundant hardware components to ensure fault tolerance. The JUNOS operating system based on the UNIX FreeBSD kernel has unique capabilities for organizing extremely flexible, stable and reliable, harmoniously developing network systems that include elements from different manufacturers. True modularity, meaning the organization of the operating system in the form of a number of independent tasks (modules) operating in protected memory areas, allows you to start and stop the software module without risk to other components of the system. Due to this, updating the OS, adding new functionality to the current version of the OS can be done in the mode of continuous operation of the system. This also allows you to use only the necessary set of functions, effectively using the resources of RAM. The M series routers are extremely flexible in terms of the possibility of their implementation in any place in the network where performance, reliability and a set of additional traffic processing capabilities are required. They can be deployed at the edge of the provider network, in small and medium backbone networks, in large backbone networks, in peering applications as route reflectors, and in data centers. The Juniper M7i-AC-5GE-P edge router is the most compact M-series routing platform. With 10 Gbps bandwidth and built-in service support, the device is ideal for edge routing in IP/MPLS environments in small points of presence, as well as for routing in Internet gateways and aggregation solutions in enterprises. The key components of any M-series router are the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) and the Routing Engine (RE). The Packet Forwarding Engine is responsible for packet forwarding. Physically, the PFE consists of interface cards (PICs), FPCs, a control/system/forwarding board, and specialized chips. The Routing Engine creates routing tables and manages routing protocols, and manages the router as a whole. The Routing Engine ensures that all routing protocols operate independently of the forwarding subsystem, so that packet forwarding is not affected by routing instability in the network.
