KIRK 1500 is a microcellular system of the DECT standard with a maximum number of base stations up to 32, a maximum number of subscribers up to 700 and a maximum number of repeaters up to 96.
The DECT standard microcellular system - KIRK 1500 (manufactured by KIRK Telecom, Denmark) can be used to organize wireless telephone communications both in the office of a small company and on the territory of a medium-sized enterprise.
With a minimum capacity of 8 subscribers and 1 base station, the system can be expanded from 128 subscribers (using an analog interface with the PBX) or up to 700 subscribers (using a PRI or IP interface). The maximum number of base stations in the system is 32.
The system's service area can be expanded by using wireless base stations - repeaters. A total of 96 repeaters can be used in the system.
The system is a "radio extender", i.e. it does not perform connection switching functions. The system is connected to the corporate PBX via analog two-wire connection lines or via the ISDN PRI interface.
Architecture of DECT system KIRK 1500
The KIRK system is built on a modular principle and allows for gradual capacity expansion from 8 to 700 subscribers (depending on the selected interface type with the PBX) and from 1 to 32 base stations.
96 repeaters can be used to increase the radio coverage area.
The KIRK 1500 system, like the KIRK 500, is an external DECT application to an institutional PBX and cannot be used autonomously; switching processes are controlled by the PBX, to which the KIRK 1500 system can be connected via 2-wire subscriber connection lines or an ISDN PRI interface.
The main module of the system is the central CCFP controller, which in its minimum configuration has 8 ports for connecting base stations. One controller can service up to 350 DECT subscribers.
Connection to the PBX requires installation of IWU subscriber interface boards, each IWU board contains 8 ports for connecting analog trunk lines to the PBX, it is possible to install IWU boards as the number of DECT subscribers increases. A total of 8 IWU boards can be installed in one controller.
Another option is to use the ISDN PRI QSIG digital interface, in which case the IWU PRI QSIG board must be installed, providing up to 30 simultaneous connections. Only one IWU PRI QSIG board can be installed in one controller. It is not possible to use the digital and analog interface simultaneously.
To increase the radio coverage area, additional base stations are used; if it is necessary to connect more than 8 base stations, a CCFP EXP board is installed in the controller, allowing for additional connection of 8 base stations. To increase the capacity and/or radio coverage area, it is possible to combine 2 controllers into a single system.
To obtain the necessary radio coverage, the system can use base stations and repeaters with directional antennas (see diagram). To provide communication to remote stationary objects, terminal subscriber radio units (TARB), sometimes called "radio sockets", are used. A regular analog telephone, fax, modem can be connected through such a socket. The maximum distance of a radio socket from a base station can reach 5 km, which allows using KIRK systems as wireless subscriber access systems.
Mobile subscribers - are located within the coverage area of base stations and repeaters and can establish communication with each other and with any subscriber of the institutional PBX or external subscribers. All PBX functions are available to them. When moving from one cell to another, the connection is not interrupted (handover).
