The Juniper M10iBASE-AC Edge Router is the most compact M-Series routing platform, featuring fully redundant core components—routing, control, and forwarding subsystems, power supplies, and fans—and supports up to 8 interface cards up to OC-12/STM-4 and Gigabit Ethernet, with 16 Gbps bandwidth.

The M-Series of IP core routers includes eight models with identical functionality, differing in performance, port capacity, and range of interface modules, as well as the presence of redundant hardware components for fault tolerance. M-Series platforms can be deployed at the edges of carrier networks, in small and medium network cores, as well as for peering, route tracking and data center applications. M-Series routers are currently used as scalable solutions at the edges of some of the largest production networks in the world. They provide a single point of edge aggregation for thousands of users with any type of access - ATM, Frame Relay, Ethernet and TDM at speeds from DS0 to OC-192/STM-64 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The router supports 16 Gbps of bandwidth and is ideal for ensuring service reliability and security in small and medium carrier point-of-presence and enterprise networks. It is the most compact and cost-effective redundant platform, which has fully redundant key components - routing, control and forwarding subsystems, power supplies and fans. The router supports up to eight interface cards up to OC-12/STM-4 and Gigabit Ethernet. Interface cards are interchangeable between the M7i and M10i. The key components of any M-Series router are the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) and the Routing Engine (RE). Packet Forwarding Engine is responsible for packet forwarding. Physically, PFE consists of interface cards (PICs), baskets for installing interface cards - FPCs, a system control and forwarding board (control/system/forwarding board) and specialized chips. Routing Engine creates routing tables and manages routing protocols, and also manages the router as a whole. Routing Engine ensures the operation of all routing protocols independently of the forwarding subsystem, so that packet forwarding is not affected by routing instability in the network.
