The Juniper M320BASE-AC Edge Router is a high-performance, 320Gbps routing platform ideal for mid-to-large core networks and high-density carrier edge applications that require consistent performance.


The M-series of IP backbone routers includes 8 models with identical functionality, differing in performance, port capacity and range of interface modules, as well as the presence of redundant hardware components to ensure fault tolerance. The Juniper M320BASE-AC edge router is a high-performance routing platform with a throughput of 320 Gbps. The solution is ideal for the cores of medium and large core networks and applications at the edge of high-density operator networks that require stable performance. The Juniper M320BASE-AC is a high-performance router with a distributed architecture and support for 10 Gbps interfaces. The chassis accommodates up to 16 OC-192c/STM-64 interfaces (32 per rack) or up to 64 OC-48c/STM-16 interfaces (128 per rack). The platform is ideal for the core network that requires predictable, stable operation with all functions enabled on high-speed interfaces. The ability to support 32 Type 1 and Type 2 PICs and up to 16 Type 3 PICs for 10 Gigabit uplinks allows the router to be used in 10 Gigabit points of presence. In addition, this platform is ideal for sites where redundancy of the switching fabric is required. The interface modules for this platform are interchangeable with the M40e, T320 and T-640. The Juniper M320BASE-AC uses a distributed architecture in which the control and forwarding plane (PFE) components are completely located on the FPC. Packet processing and route lookup are performed on the ingress PFE, after which the packet is forwarded through the switching fabric to the egress PFE, where the final route lookup and packet processing are performed. Programmable ASICs - PFE components provide an independent processing rate of 40 Gbps per PFE. To ensure non-blocking operation, all communications between ASICs and between input/output PFEs are implemented with a performance margin.
